On August 21, 2017, Jackson Hole will witness the most memorable event of the summer: The Great American Eclipse!
This solar eclipse is pretty special because it’s the first eclipse viewable in the Continental US since 1979. The eclipse will begin on the Oregon coast and travel through Idaho and Wyoming before ending on South Carolina’s coast, and will cross 14 states in total. We are incredibly lucky to be in Jackson Hole, positioned directly on the path of the eclipse!
An eclipse occurs when the moon is between the earth and the sun, and its umbra, or shadow, hits the earth. Here in Wyoming we will be able to see the eclipse for two minutes and twenty seconds, at approximately 11:35 am.
Witnessing a solar eclipse surrounded by the beauty of the Tetons is an experience you will remember your entire life. Birds stop chirping, animals fall quiet, and time stands still momentarily, creating an emotional, breathtaking event!
So who’s ready?
