What is the difference between Jackson and Jackson Hole?
We’re so glad you asked! There’s often confusion between the two. Simply put, Jackson Hole is the valley, while Jackson is a town located inside that valley. Jackson Hole is 60 miles long and sits right beside the Teton Mountain Range, home to multiple towns, such as Jackson, Wilson, Moose, Kelly, Moran, and Teton Village. Jackson is the town that sits on the southern end, home to the iconic Town Square!
Is Jackson Hole in Colorado? Is Jackson Hole in Montana?
Nope! Jackson Hole is located in the westernmost part of Wyoming. Fun fact- we are only a 30-minute drive from the Idaho border!
Are the mountains called the Tetons?
“The Tetons” most commonly refers to the 40-mile-long Teton Mountain range, the eastern portion of which is located in Grand Teton National Park. The range consists of 134 named mountains, the tallest summits being referred to as the Cathedral Group. These peaks include the Middle Teton, Nez Perce Peak, Mount Owen, Teewiont, and the Grand Teton- the largest mountain sitting at 13,775 ft. The Cathedral Group is the set of mountains that you’ve most likely seen in photos!
Is Jackson Hole in Yellowstone?
Jackson Hole is not in Yellowstone, but a large portion of the valley is located in Grand Teton National Park! From the town of Jackson, the entrance to Yellowstone is about 60 miles away making it possible for a day trip.
Fun fact- Did you know that the Jackson Hole Airport is the only commercial airport in the United States entirely located in a national park?
Does Jackson Hole have an airport?
Yes, we do! Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) offers direct flights from Miami, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, and more! Plus, it might be the coolest flight you’ll ever take. Make sure to snag a window seat to get one of the best views of the Tetons!
Does Jackson Hole have UBER?
Do we have UBER? Yes. Is it always reliable? No. Will you have the same driver every time? Most likely! We recommend renting a car or using a taxi service to get around the area.
Is a huckleberry just a fancy blueberry?
You’ll most likely find huckleberries used in dishes in and around Jackson Hole. Although similar to the blueberry, huckleberries have a sharp tart flavor and are much smaller! Typically found in the Mountain West, you must get your hands on a huckleberry pancake or milkshake.
At what elevation do deer become elk?
Elk and deer are actually completely different animals! While they belong to the same genus, the differences between the two are pretty significant. Elk are significantly larger than the mule deer we see in Jackson Hole- not to mention much more vocal. Visit in the late Summer or Fall to catch their bugling!
When are the animals released?
The wildlife lives here year-round! It’s important to remember that Jackson Hole is not a zoo. Please show respect by refraining from petting the wildlife! If you’re close enough to take a clear selfie with an animal, you’re too close! While they may appear gentle, they can charge if startled. Appreciate and admire them from a safe distance.
Does Jackson Hole have snow right now?
